JMSC7001 Arts and culture journalism [Section 1A, 2025]
This course is an introduction to arts and culture journalism with a focus on both international and Hong Kong-based coverage. We will establish how culture journalism differs from, and applies the tools of, classic news reporting. We will break down how to write profiles, reviews, and reported features. We will learn how to think like critics when analysing cultural forms whether traditional (e.g. visual arts; film) or everyday (digital life; food). And, with the guidance of field experts, we will go out and cover Hong Kong’s cultural scene—all while considering how our profession can do it better.
