Building automation system (BAS), also known as building management system (BMS), is the automatic centralized control of a building's HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), electrical, lighting, shading, access control, security systems, and other interrelated systems. The objectives of BAS include improved occupant comfort, efficient operation of building systems, reduction in energy consumption, reduced operating and maintaining costs and increased security. This course will introduce the basic concepts and principles of BAS and the related control fundamentals. The practical knowledge to design and select appropriate BAS for integrated control of building services systems will be examined. The specified requirements and considerations for design and operation of BAS will be explained.
