‘Designs on the Future’ is intended to inspire thinking about the way we should construct our future living environments in order to find the most sustainable balance.  We will explore the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as they apply to Hong Kong, addressing issues of  population and urbanization, materials resources, and human systems,as a way of understanding what is a sustainable future might look like.  We will also evaluate the different media and strategies that people have used / are using to advocate for more sustainable approaches to the environment and community.

A constant stream of fraudulent news stories in our daily media diet has given rise to troubling cultural trends and political movements in recent years across the world. False claims, misleading factoids, exaggerations, propaganda, hoaxes, rumours, questionable advertising, radical extremism, and other types of fallacious content, often called misinformation and disinformation, are now being masqueraded as news and journalism.

In today’s digital world, all of us must understand the complexity of information disorder and its intertwined ecology. We need to learn how to navigate through the abundance of media content actively and effectively to identify both problematic and reliable information circulating in our community. This inquiry-based, hands-on course introduces you to the tools and techniques of fact-checking and social media verification, as well as the relevant concepts in the field of news literacy. It covers a wide range of topics from computer science, statistics, digital forensics, cognitive psychology, marketing, politics, and, of course, journalism studies among others.
