Smart phones are now indispensible tool for everyone. They can be used not only for traditional voice communications, but also serve as personal digital assistant, gaming console, media box, or miniature PC that perform tasks that could originally be done only on PC. The versatility of smart phones’ capabilities is actually backup by a wide range of applications (or simply apps).

Smart phones open up another dimension for software developer to develop applications that interact with their users. But since smart phones are nothing like desktop computers (e.g. substantially smaller monitor screen, touch-screen oriented, etc.), special care has to be taken in order to develop successful apps. In this course, students will learn about the design issues of smart phone apps, as well as apps development environments and programming techniques (e.g. Java for Android and Objective-C for iPhones).

Hi, welcome to the course COMP7506A Smart Phone Apps Development!

Smart phones have become very popular in recent years. For iPhones alone, 50,000,000 pieces were sold worldwide in 2009. In addition to iPhones, there are also Android phones, Symbian phones as well as Windows phones. Smart phones play an important role in mobile communication and applications.

Smart phones are powerful as they support a wide range of applications (called apps). Most of the time, smart phone users just purchase their favorite apps wirelessly from the vendors. There is a great potential for software developer to reach worldwide users.

This course aims at introducing the design issues of smart phone apps. For examples, the smart phone screen is usually much smaller than the computer monitor. We have to pay special attention to this aspect in order to develop attractive and successful apps. Different smart phone apps development environments and programming techniques (such as Java for Android phones and Objective-C / Swift for iPhones) will be introduced to facilitate students to develop their own apps.

COMP7503 Multimedia technologies [Section 1A, 2015]

Computing devices interacts with human based on three (out of five) primary senses: Sight, Hearing and Touch. Multimedia computing deals with multiple media data in relation to these senses to process and convey information to and from human. The challenge for multimedia computing systems is to integrate the different media information streams into a coherent view. The use of multimedia data in computing has grown even more rapid than imagined due to the abundantly available camera-equipped cell phones with the ability to share multimedia contents in social networks. In this course, we present multimedia as a fundamental and unique discipline that takes advantage of all media available to solve problems. Graduate students can learn from this course the fundamentals of multimedia computing, and get hold of emerging technologies to prepare themselves to embrace the future development of multimedia computing.

The lectures start with a short introduction on various financial derivative products, and then move to the derivation of the mathematical models employed in the valuation of these products, and finally come to the solving techniques for the models.

  Hello ! Welcome to COMP2123 Programming Technologies and Tools!

This course introduces various technologies and tools that are useful for software development, including Linux, C++ STL, the C language, shell scripts and python. 

This is a self-learning course (flipped class), we will provide learning materials for you to follow. Instructors and teaching assistants are available in the laboratories as a facilitators and provide assistant to help your learning.

Students are required to follow the learning materials in the laboratory sessions and submit in class exercises every week.
