This course offers a gentle introduction to the field of cryptography. We will start from the basic principles of confidentiality, integrity and authentication. After that, we will go through some fundamental cryptographic primitives like hash function, symmetric key encryption, public key encryption and digital signatures. Finally, we will introduce the basics of quantum cryptography including quantum key distribution and random number generation.

This course will introduce fundamental principles to design a secure system. It covers essential topics about cyber security, including crypto, software security, network security, web security, AI security, etc. The course is lab-driven, through which students will get their hands dirty on security labs to learn real-world attacks and defenses.

This course focuses on learning the critical technologies of the World Wide Web and involves a lot of programming practice in developing web-based applications and systems. The course consists primarily of lectures and workshop practice. Major topics are Internet basic, client-server model, IP, DNS, HTTP, HTML5, JSON, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, ReactJS, web services, and Cloud-native applications.

The primary objective of this course is to explore the legal and ethical challenges and ramifications in the modern practice of data science. Using a case-based approach, students will analyse contemporary controversies from a techno-legal and ethical perspectives. The focuses are data privacy and the regulation of using data in specific areas of law. Topics include basic privacy protection techniques, such as encryption and data anonymization data privacy laws, open data policy, data protection process and technology, issues in the usage of sensitive personal data and public data.
